In addition to a fire, what problems could have contaminated the lint filter in the cause of dryer?

The filter is for the movement, so that air can circulate, there is always the possibility of a fire or burn the motor of the dryer. Clothes do not dry out so quickly.

No clothes, but you are looking for cause of a fire if not cleaned and dried, the filter does not mean that smell musty is also a second, third, the use of large amounts of electricity to the dryer and, last but not least, can and will carried out in these days of fire, so for your safety, cleaning and remove all the lint I am sure the dryer is connected to the hose down and replaced with a new one.
